This new 50,000 square foot facility located near Portland, Oregon is the home of the world's largest HIP vessel. Used to compress steel for high tech applications such as turbine rotors and blades for jet engines, the high pressure HIP vessels weigh nearly a million pounds each and required special foundations, 25 foot deep service pits, and 60 foot overhead clearances. Difficult site conditions involving subsurface rock ledges required Strand Hunt to call on all its extensive industrial building and value engineering experience to mitigate additional site cost.
