McChord
AFB, Tacoma:
On December 15, the Air Mobility Command, US Air Force, 62nd
Medical Group dedicated their new, $15 million McChord Medical Clinic.
This state-of-the-art, 98,657 SF, two-story clinic and attached
mobility logistics building was completed in November and occupied by
early December, one month ahead of the Government’s schedule.
The striking new facility consolidated all base clinical services,
previously housed at thirteen separate locations in several outmoded
buildings, some dating from 1938. A
second phase is underway to demolish the older buildings and restore their
sites, a process expected to be complete in just two months, a savings of
four months over the established schedule.
The
project was administered by the Seattle District, US Army Corps of
Engineers and designed by NBBJ of Seattle.
Strand Hunt Construction of Kirkland was the general contractor,
having secured the project under the Government’s “source selection”
RFP process. It represents
one of the most successful accomplishments of the McChord
“quality-of-life” improvements program for Air Force personnel and
their families, and an outstanding success for the design and construction
team. ###
